At Gotland Whisky, we call the first eight casks, "the first casks". They were distilled over a period of a couple of months back in 2012 when everything was new and we tried to figure out how the distillery worked.

Nose: Almond, vanilla, medicinal and tobacco
Taste: Oily, soot, anise and leather
Finish: Medium-long, citrus, salmiac, smoke
Comment: It takes a while for the aroma to emerge, the typical Gotland whisky aroma is completely missing.
Considering that the first malt was only slightly smoked and that the cutting at the distillation in 2012 was early, the noticeable smokiness is probably from the ex-Laphroaig cask.
