ISLE OF LIME BLÄSE
In the middle of the 19th century, a sloop sank outside Kappelshamnsviken at
northwest Gotland. The surviving bookkeeper Edvard Vilhelm Cleve ended up
in Bläse. He heard of the hidden riches of the limestone mountain,
bought land and founded Bläse lime mill in 1866.
Almost 100 years and several changes of ownership later, the lime mill
was closed in 1954. And this is where the story could have ended.
But the lime-rich water lives on in this one flavourful whisky, aged
ten years in bourbon casks.
